Chrome extensions

The Chrome extensions featured on this blog (Simple Side Note, Phrase Hero, Side Panel Clock) each have their own privacy practices. A summary is below; full details are in each extension's repository.

Extension Data collected Where stored Shared with third parties
Simple Side Note Your notes and settings only chrome.storage.local (on your device) No
Phrase Hero Your quiz progress and settings chrome.storage.local (on your device) No
Side Panel Clock Your clock settings and timer state chrome.storage.local (on your device) No

Key points:

  • All extensions store data locally on your device using chrome.storage.local.
  • No extension sends your data to any server. There is no backend, no database, and no cloud sync.
  • No extension uses analytics, crash reporting, or advertising SDKs.
  • Permissions requested by each extension are used solely for the extension's core features. See each extension's documentation for a permission-by-permission explanation.

The source code for every extension is public on GitHub, so these claims are independently verifiable.

Third-party links

This blog may contain links to external sites that are not operated by me, including:

I am not responsible for the privacy practices or content of these external sites. I recommend reviewing their privacy policies separately.

Children's privacy

This blog and my extensions are not directed to children under 13 (or the applicable age in your jurisdiction). I do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to me, please contact me so I can take appropriate action.

Depending on your location (e.g., under the EU GDPR, UK GDPR, or CCPA), you may have rights regarding your personal data, including:

  • The right to access the personal data I hold about you
  • The right to request correction or deletion
  • The right to object to certain processing
  • The right to withdraw consent at any time

Because this blog does not operate its own data collection system, most data held about you will be controlled by Google (Blogger) or your own browser. For data held by Google, see the Google Privacy & Terms page.

For extension data: all of it is stored locally on your device. You can delete everything at any time by uninstalling the extension or clearing extension storage in chrome://extensions.

Data retention

  • Blog comments are retained by Blogger until you or I delete them.
  • Contact emails are retained only as long as needed to respond to your inquiry, unless legally required to be kept longer.
  • Extension data is retained on your device until you delete it. It is automatically removed when you uninstall the extension.

Changes to this policy

I may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When I do, I will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For significant changes, I may also publish a blog post notifying readers.
