Simple Side Note v1.1.0: Smarter Saving, Custom Titles, and Markdown Export
π Published July 2026 · ⏱ 4 min read · ✍️ SWYoon Labs
Simple Side Note v1.1.0 is now live on the Chrome Web Store. This update rethinks how saving works, adds smarter memo organization, and brings Markdown export — without changing what makes the extension simple to use.
Here is everything that is new.
πΎ Explicit Save Button
Previous versions saved automatically as you typed — which was convenient, but left a persistent question: "Was that actually saved?" Starting in v1.1.0, you are in control. A Save button now appears at the bottom of the editor, and it tells you exactly what is happening.
- When there are unsaved changes, the button shows a · indicator so you always know the current state.
- After saving, the button briefly confirms with ✓ Saved.
- If you preferred auto-save, it is still available. Go to the new Settings tab and turn on Draft Auto-Preserve to restore that behavior.
✏️ Custom Memo Titles
You can now give each memo its own title. Type it directly into the title field at the top of the editor. If you leave the field empty, Simple Side Note generates a title automatically from the first line of your note — exactly as before.
This is especially useful for memos that grow over time: a vocabulary list, a daily phrase collection, or a grammar reference. Naming them clearly makes the saved list much easier to scan at a glance.
π Pin · π Search · π Sort
The saved memo list has three new controls that become more useful the more memos you have.
- Pin: Mark any memo with π to keep it permanently at the top of the list — useful for memos you open every session.
- Search: Filter the entire list by keyword in real time. The search now covers both titles and body text.
- Sort: Switch between newest first, oldest first, and alphabetical by title — one tap to reorder everything.
π Markdown Export
HTML export is still available, but v1.1.0 adds a second format: Markdown (.md). Export any memo as a Markdown file and open it directly in Notion, Obsidian, or any Markdown-compatible editor. No reformatting required.
Both formats are available from the Export button in the saved memo view.
⚙️ New Settings Tab
A dedicated Settings tab lets you configure the extension to match how you work. All options are off by default — turn on what you need.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Draft Auto-Preserve | Restores unsaved content when you reopen the panel — even if you did not hit Save |
| Unsaved Changes Warning | Shows a confirmation prompt before switching memos or creating a new one with unsaved edits |
| Delete Confirmation | Asks before permanently deleting a memo |
| Capture Source URL | Automatically appends the source page URL when you use right-click → Add to Memo |
π¨ Other Changes
- Confirmation dialogs now use a themed in-extension UI instead of the browser's default popup — consistent with the Light, Dark, and Warm themes.
- When you close and reopen the sidebar, the memo you were editing stays selected. No more losing your place.
π Bug Fixes
- Fixed: clicking the title or search input field sometimes moved focus to the body editor.
- Fixed: deleting the memo currently open in the editor caused a silent save failure on the next Save action.
π Privacy — No Change
All memos are stored locally on your device. Nothing is sent to any server — this has not changed and will not change. In fact, v1.1.0 removes the <all_urls> host permission that previous versions included but did not need. The extension is now lighter and requests fewer permissions than before.
